Offensive Security & Ethical Hacking

The most useful test is the one that behaves like the adversary you will actually face. Our offensive team draws on live incident experience to find the paths that matter, prove impact responsibly and leave you with fixes that hold.

Overview

Aureon's ethical hacking services are authorised, scoped and conducted under written rules of engagement. We prioritise realism and business impact over long lists of low-value findings, and we work with your engineering teams until the issues that matter are closed.

Because our testers sit alongside incident responders, our testing reflects current tradecraft: identity abuse, token theft, edge-device exploitation, cloud misconfiguration, supply-chain weaknesses and the ransomware playbooks we see in real cases.

When to engage us

  • A regulator, customer or insurer requires independent testing.
  • A major change: new application, cloud migration, merger or divestiture.
  • After an incident, to prove that the exploited paths are closed.
  • To validate a SOC or MDR provider against realistic attacks.
  • Before a DORA or TIBER-EU threat-led test cycle.
What a red team shows

Not whether you can be breached, but how far an attacker gets before anyone notices.

Every exercise maps the path from a realistic initial access to the objectives that matter to your business, and records at each step whether your controls and your SOC saw it. The result is a prioritised list of the detections and hardening that would have stopped the chain.

  • Scenarios based on the actors and techniques active in your sector.
  • Detection and response measured alongside exploitation.
  • Findings replayed with your blue team so that the fix is understood, not only listed.

What we deliver

Capabilities within Offensive Security & Ethical Hacking.

01

External and internal penetration testing

Infrastructure testing from the internet and from an assumed-breach position, including Active Directory and Entra ID attack paths, segmentation and privilege escalation.

02

Web, mobile and API security testing

Manual testing aligned with OWASP standards, covering authentication, authorisation, business logic, data exposure and integrations with third parties.

03

Cloud security assessment

Configuration and attack-path review of AWS, Azure, GCP and Microsoft 365 tenants, including identity, storage exposure, CI/CD pipelines and secrets management.

04

Red team and adversary simulation

Objective-based operations that emulate specific threat actors against people, processes and technology, measuring detection and response rather than just vulnerabilities.

05

Purple team exercises

Collaborative sessions with your SOC or MDR provider that validate detection coverage against MITRE ATT&CK techniques and tune it in real time.

06

Threat-led penetration testing

TIBER-EU and DORA-aligned TLPT engagements for financial entities, with threat intelligence, scenario design and controlled execution against production.

07

OT and ICS security assessment

Safe assessment of industrial environments, from architecture and segmentation review to passive discovery and controlled testing in maintenance windows.

08

Social engineering and physical testing

Phishing, voice and in-person engagements that test awareness and the controls around it, designed with legal and HR safeguards.

09

Source code and AI system review

Security review of application code, infrastructure as code and AI-enabled systems, including prompt injection, data leakage and model access controls.

10

Vulnerability management support

Prioritisation of findings using exploitation intelligence, remediation verification and retesting until closure.

Method

How we test.

1

Scope and authorise

Objectives, boundaries, legal authorisation, emergency contacts and data handling agreed in writing before any activity begins.

2

Reconnaissance and intelligence

Attack surface mapping and threat intelligence shape scenarios that reflect your real adversaries rather than generic checklists.

3

Exploitation and impact

Controlled exploitation with evidence of impact, safe handling of credentials and data, and immediate notification of critical findings.

4

Report, fix, retest

Findings ranked by exploitability and business impact, remediation workshops with your engineers and verification testing until the paths are closed.

Deliverables

What you receive.

Clear, usable outputs for executives, technical teams, insurers and regulators.

  • Rules of engagement and authorisation documentation.
  • Executive report with risk narrative and attack paths visualised.
  • Technical report with reproducible steps, evidence and remediation guidance per finding.
  • Detection and response observations where the engagement is objective-based.
  • Remediation workshop and verification retest.
  • Attestation letter for customers, auditors and insurers on request.
Questions we are asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is testing safe for production systems?

Testing is scoped and executed to avoid disruption. Destructive techniques are excluded unless explicitly agreed, OT environments are handled with passive methods first, and we maintain emergency contacts throughout.

How is this different from a vulnerability scan?

Scanners list known issues. Our testers chain weaknesses the way adversaries do, confirm real impact and separate what is exploitable from what is theoretical, so your teams fix what matters first.

Can you test our suppliers?

Only with their written authorisation. We help clients design supplier assurance programmes and run testing where contracts and consent allow.

Do you provide certificates of testing?

Yes. We issue attestation letters describing scope, methodology and the status of findings, which clients share with customers, auditors and insurers.
