External Attack Surface Management

Attackers do not start from your asset inventory. They start from what they can see: forgotten subdomains, a management interface left open, a portal running end-of-life software, a cloud bucket created for a project that ended. This module shows you that view first, continuously, and tells you which findings an attacker would actually use.

Overview

Most organisations have a larger internet footprint than they know, spread across subsidiaries, acquisitions, hosting providers, cloud tenants and suppliers. The assets that cause incidents are rarely the ones with an owner and a patch cycle.

We discover your attack surface passively from DNS, certificates, internet-wide scan data and open sources, then, with your agreement and prior notice, test the assets that matter actively. Every finding is validated by an analyst and prioritised by exploitability, with the owner identified and the fix described.

When to engage us

  • You cannot say with confidence what your organisation exposes to the internet.
  • Acquisitions, subsidiaries or suppliers have added assets nobody owns.
  • A vulnerability is being exploited in the wild and you need to know if you are affected, today.
  • Scanner reports are long, noisy and never finished.
  • An insurer or regulator asks for evidence of attack surface management.
Vulnerability intelligence

The public record is not the real severity.

Scanners and feeds show the same score to everyone. What matters is whether the vulnerability is being discussed, weaponised and sold against your technology, and whether you expose it. We combine the public record, underground intelligence and your inventory into one priority.

  • Actively exploited and underground-weaponised vulnerabilities flagged before public catalogues catch up.
  • Matched to the assets you actually expose, not to a generic product list.
  • A short list your teams can patch this week, with the evidence behind each priority.

What we deliver

What the module covers.

01

Asset discovery and attribution

Domains, subdomains, IP ranges, cloud resources and third-party hosted services attributed to your organisation and its subsidiaries, including shadow IT.

02

Exposed services and interfaces

Remote access, management consoles, databases, file shares and industrial protocols reachable from the internet, with the risk each one represents.

03

End-of-life and vulnerable technology

Software versions that no longer receive patches or that are affected by actively exploited vulnerabilities, matched to the threat intelligence we hold.

04

Passive first, active by agreement

Discovery without touching your systems, then controlled active testing with prior notice, agreed scan rates and source addresses you can allow-list.

05

Validated findings only

An analyst confirms each finding and discards scanner noise, so that your teams receive a short list they can trust.

06

Certificate and configuration hygiene

Expiring or misissued certificates, weak protocols, open redirects, exposed debug endpoints and misconfigured headers.

07

Cloud and SaaS exposure

Public storage, exposed APIs, over-permissive sharing and tenant misconfigurations across the cloud platforms you use.

08

Change monitoring

Alerts when a new asset appears, a service opens or a finding reappears after it was fixed.

Method

Seeing yourself as an attacker does.

1

Discover

Passive discovery of everything attributed to your organisation, reconciled with your own inventory.

2

Assess

Exposed services, vulnerable technology and misconfigurations identified and validated by analysts.

3

Test

Agreed active testing of priority assets, with notice, allow-listing and scan rates you control.

4

Fix and watch

Findings with owners and fixes, tracked to closure, with continuous monitoring for new exposure.

Deliverables

What you receive.

Clear, usable outputs for executives, technical teams, insurers and regulators.

  • Attack surface inventory with ownership and attribution evidence.
  • Validated findings prioritised by exploitability, with remediation guidance.
  • Active testing report for the assets in scope, with evidence.
  • Change alerts for new assets, services and reappearing findings.
  • Monthly exposure report and quarterly trend review.
  • Input to your vulnerability management and your penetration testing scope.
Questions we are asked

Frequently asked questions.

Will active testing disrupt our systems or trigger our defences?

Active testing is agreed in advance, announced, run at controlled rates from known addresses that your firewall and WAF can allow-list, and avoids disruptive checks. Passive discovery never touches your systems.

How is this different from a vulnerability scanner?

Scanners list what they see. We first establish what is really yours, validate every finding, discard the noise and tell you which issues an attacker would actually use, with the owner and the fix.

Can you start with a one-off review?

Yes. Many clients start with a passive review, see the result and then move to agreed active testing and continuous monitoring.

Does this replace penetration testing?

No. It tells you what to test and keeps watching between tests. Our offensive security team uses the same inventory to scope penetration tests and red team exercises.
